What is a Surrogate?

A surrogate is a woman who agrees to carry and give birth to a child for another person or couple who may not be able to conceive naturally. In the most common type of surrogacy, the surrogate only carries the embryo created from the intended parents' eggs and sperm, so she does not share any genetic material with the baby.

Who Do Surrogates Help?
Surrogates help a wide variety of people, including individuals struggling with infertility, same-sex couples and members of the LGBTQ+ community, single intended parents, and those with medical or genetic conditions that prevent them from carrying a child. Surrogates make it possible for people who dream of becoming parents to finally realize their dream.

What is the Process to Become a Surrogate?

The process to become a surrogate begins with an application and screening process, which includes medical and psychological evaluations. Once approved, the surrogate is matched with intended parents. After the matching process, the medical procedures, such as embryo transfer and fertility treatments to prepare the surrogate for embryo transfer are conducted. Next, a pregnancy test is given. In certain cases, the transfer procedure will need to be repeated. Once pregnancy is confirmed, the surrogate works closely with a medical team, like the team of fertility experts at Harvest Surrogacy, to ensure both the baby and surrogate are healthy throughout the entire pregnancy.

How Long Does the Surrogate Process Take?
The surrogacy process can take between 14 to 24 months, depending on several factors, such as the matching process time and medical preparation needed. From the initial screening to delivery, it requires dedication and patience, but the rewards are many, including substantial financial compensation, maternity clothes allowance, travel and childcare reimbursement, and most importantly, being able to have a life-changing impact on an individual or couple longing to have a family of their own.

Why Do Women Become Surrogates?

Women choose to become surrogates for a variety of meaningful reasons. Some are driven by the desire to help individuals or couples experience the joy of parenthood, while others are drawn to the opportunity to provide for their own families financially. Regardless of their motivation, all surrogates share a deep sense of fulfillment in knowing they are giving someone the priceless gift of a family.
